We Coproduce (now closed) worked tirelessly to embed coproduction across NHS services, working with NHS England, NHS Trusts, commissioners, universities and charities. But we think our initial call for coproduction has been achieved - few people would argue against working collaboratively.

We are now committed to the next phase.   Making it work.

Fifteen years working with committed front line staff, at board level and with communities, we saw highly motivated and passionate leaders, committed to coproduction burn out.

We witnessed paralysis around risk aversion, the pace of top down asks, outdated or paternalistic and assumptions and historical cultures and practices that were no longer serving the organisation or local people.

Four questions came up.

  1. How do we broaden our current outreach to include new voices that we know remain unheard?

  2. How do we factor in the demands for pace, limited capacity, high staff turn-over and top down KPI's?

  3. How do we know if we are getting it right? How do we measure success?

  4. How can conflict, disagreement and expectations be managed well?

If your organisation is asking these questions - you are in a great place.
